Description
Positions:
- Instrumentation Engineer /Technician - Solvent Extraction & Electrowinning
- Install new instrumentation systems including sensors, transmitters, analyzers, and controllers used in SX-EW processes.
- Calibrate instruments such as flow meters, pH meters, pressure sensors, temperature gauges, conductivity sensors, and online analyzers to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Ensure correct installation of field devices and verify their proper connection to Distributed Control Systems (DCS) or Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
- Perform routine maintenance on process instruments, ensuring they are operating within required specifications and minimizing downtime.
- Identify and troubleshoot faulty instruments and control systems to ensure minimal disruption to the SX-EW process.
- Replace or repair damaged instrumentation components to maintain plant operation efficiency.
3. Support Process Control:
- Work closely with operations staff to ensure that critical process parameters are continuously monitored, such as acid concentration, copper levels, and flow rates in the solvent extraction and electrowinning stages.
- Assist in optimizing process control loops by ensuring proper functioning of control instruments, transmitters, and related systems.
4. Troubleshooting and Repairs:
- Diagnose and resolve issues with instrumentation equipment that may affect the SX-EW process, such as calibration drift, sensor failures, or signal transmission problems.
- Collaborate with other maintenance and engineering personnel to solve complex instrumentation issues and implement preventive solutions.
- Maintain accurate records of instrument calibration, installation, repair, and maintenance activities.
- Ensure proper documentation for all work performed on instrumentation systems, including updating instrument datasheets and maintaining calibration certificates.
- Provide reports on instrumentation performance and suggest improvements to reduce downtime and enhance reliability.
6. Safety and Compliance:
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures related to working with electrical and instrumentation equipment, ensuring compliance with company and regulatory safety standards.
- Participate in safety audits and ensure that all instrumentation is maintained to prevent hazards such as chemical leaks, electrical issues, or process malfunctions.
- Assist with maintaining safety systems, such as alarms, interlocks, and emergency shutdown systems (ESD).
7. Reporting:
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports on chemical analysis, process performance, and reagent usage.
- Document any process changes, troubleshooting actions, and improvements implemented.
Requirements
- Previous experience in copper hydrometallurgy ,specifically SX-EW process
- Familiarity with advanced instrumentation technologies and digital control systems.
- Knowledge of process automation and optimization for chemical or metallurgical operations.
- Understanding of safety practices and environmental regulations in industrial plant settings.
- Diploma or certification in Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering, or a related
- technical field.
- 3+ years of experience as an Instrumentation Technician, preferably in a mining, chemical processing, or metallurgical plant environment.
- Strong knowledge of field instruments, sensors, and control systems used in solvent extraction and electrowinning processes.
- Experience working with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing instrumentation systems and components.
- Familiarity with instrumentation standards and calibration procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a team environment.
