Description

We are seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to manage all equipment and processes and systems that fall under laboratory automation. This includes the maintenance of existing automation scripts and innovating on new ideas to improve workflow management. Automated climate control, paperless workflow management and improvement, linking related laboratories through online platforms or robotic systems all in an effort to improve productivity, lower wastage, improve efficiency and eliminate manual transfers and handling of samples etc.

The Senior Automation Engineer reports to the Automation Manager. They will be expected to lead small teams in case the department expands in scope, which means capacity to plan and execute complex automation projects, programming in a variety of languages including but not limited to C++, Python, Django, Javascript, Bash, SQL, advanced MS Office etc will be crucial. The scope of this role is limited by the individual’s imagination in terms of lab workflow and general workflow improvement.

Responsibilities

• Develop innovative functional solutions to address laboratory workflow inefficiencies related to manual handling in processes.
• Evaluate laboratory workflows, and scope improvements of existing technologies or participate in the selection of new solutions to eliminate redundancy, downtime, or bottlenecks.
• Participate in cross platform/BU projects that might include IT, AI, and Engineering teams in G42 Healthcare in the development of innovative solutions with a potential for Commercialization.
• Review new workflows or workflow modifications for new project tracks and implement automated solutions to improve efficiency and TAT
• Create and maintain documentation (such as SOPs, Technical Manuals, Spec Sheets, etc.) for the Automation team and solutions implemented in the Omics Centre.
• Must integrate all laboratory equipments into the software platform for workflow management and design future integrations to fully automate the whole lab workflow.
• Develop, maintain, and update an Orientation Manual for new personnel assigned to the Automation team.
• Provide guidance and training to the junior staff in the Automation team on the use of automated solutions.
• Participate in other activities assigned by line management aligned to the functions of the Omics Centre.
• Other task and responsibilities assigned by your Direct Manager.
• Participate in implementing and maintaining ISO and CAP standards in the organizational total quality management system.

Requirements

• Bachelor/Master’s degree or equivalent in Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, Automation, Software Engineering
• A minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience post-graduation
• Experience in independent/unsupervised developmental or consultancy work will be preferable.
• Programming in languages such as Python, Bash, SQL, Javascript, C++, Html, PHP etc.
• Skills in advanced MS Office are a must
